An Introduction to ArtRage

ArtRage 2.5 is a wonderful piece of software that enables users to paint DIGITALLY! It’s mess free and is just as realistic as using its real life counterparts! It is possible to manipulate this program by firstly choosing a tool from the palette at the bottom left of the screen. You can then choose the thickness of the selected media…. My favourite effect is colour mixing using the palette knife tool - it’s so realistic! Since the tutorial in week four (which I’ve spoken briefly about in my blog), I’ve spent some time using ArtRage, and I’ve even had some of my Kindergarten students use it for a religion lesson. Check out the pictures below; my talented sister Fiona painted them.

In the classroom, you could have your students create an artwork which meets certain outcomes. These could then be saved as JPEGs and you could develop them to display on a pin board in the classroom or in students’ work portfolios. It only costs 15c to develop a 10 x 15cm photo, so it’s inexpensive too. This is an alternative to the paper based artworks normally created in classrooms and students get to explore technology at the same time!

The other brilliant thing about ArtRage is that you can download the starter edition free of charge for both Windows and Mac platforms!

Wish I was that talented :)
It’s nice to see the creation of something in artrage that can’t be designed with paint.
