A focus will be made here on Mac software, as the personal digital story Crossing Paths was created on iMovie.
iMovie is one of the programs which comes with Apple’s iLife ’08. iLife comes with a Mac, straight out of the box! If, however, you would like to upgrade to iLife ’08 for personal use, then it costs A$99 for the general public and the educator price is A$89. In terms of purchasing a school license, site licenses of either iLife or iWork cost A$319. A site license allows institutions to utilise the software suites with up to 500 students. A K – 12 School Site Licence also allows the educational institution to install the software on “up to 50 additional computers, for the specific purpose of creating and revising lessons for their classrooms,” (Apple, 2008).
It is evident that purchasing a School Site License is economical for a school as hundreds of students can benefit from the easy to use Mac programs. Additionally, when considering the functionality of the programs included in iLife (iMovie, iPhoto, GarageBand, iWeb and iDVD), the individual costs for personal use are also very reasonable!
In terms of suppliers, iLife can be purchased from Apple stores and resellers such as Next Byte, a premium reseller of Apple products. There are eight Next Byte retailers in NSW itself! Online purchases are limited to consumer or personal use products only.
