What a cold, windy, rainy day Friday (August 22nd) turned out to be! At lunch time in the Kindergarten Learning Space (KLS), Kindergarten watched Finding Nemo on the large projector screen, making the experience almost cinematic! Of course, the the data projector and screen are used for many other purposes – for example, viewing and commenting on different types of shelter around the world. It ensures every child has a clear view of what is going on. Kindergarten is exploring the CeNet site (which you have probably heard of!) and are familiarising themselves with typing text on a keyboard and using the mouse on the computers and laptops. There are also digital cameras available for the students to use. In the above video, you can take a peek into the KLS – where the students are part of an engaging and innovative classroom learning experience.
Also, if you have grabbed the Sun Herald today, you will see that the KLS is featured on the front page OR you can have a look at the article by clicking on the SMH link on the left (under Interesting Articles). Not only is technology revolutionising learning and teaching…. classrooms themselves are changing and we will all be part of these changes in the near future!

I did see this article in the SMH newspaper this morning! It must be great getting to experience this first hand if it is what classrooms of the future will be like. I would like to experience what it is like because I am not quite sure whether I think about this approach to learning, and the only way I could know would be for me and all other uncertain people to experience it. Is it much different from a normal classroom setting? Would you need specific training?
I like your video, its good to be able to have an idea of what it looks like inside.

It’s just a matter of getting along with a team of teachers as everyone will teach each others class groups as well as collaboratively teaching with others. It takes some getting used to, but it’s always fun and exciting. I don’t think specific training is required but it is beneficial to see it operating – teachers from other schools have come and visited the KLS, and as the article was saying, it’s going to be the future!
Hi Kyra,
thank you for posting the link to the SMH article it was very interesting. As well as being interested from a teaching perspective I also have a niece in KLS and am interested in her learning also. From that point of view I know the parents of my niece are very happy with her progress and have nothing but praise for the structure of the classroom. It must be very exciting for you to be a part of such an innovative school. I look forward to seeing more updates.
Hi Kyra,
How exciting to be on Channel Nine News tonight (27th August)! You’re a star!!!!! The funny thing is that all of our 90 kindergarten children have been watching the news for the last 3 nights hoping they can see themselves. Finally they can say they have seen themselves on television.
