My first YouTube video created on iMovie!

It’s been great exploring WordPress with some of the staff at J23. I’m very pleased to be posting a YouTube video here which I created on iMovie. Can I just say, iMovie and iMovie HD work so much better than Windows Movie Maker (which has crashed so many times while in use, causing a reboot of the computer EVERY time!!!). Being a part of the ICT course is good because I’ve now made myself a member of YouTube as well as WordPress, learning lots of new things along the way! Prior to this, I only ever used to watch videos on YouTube; now I am a contributor as well! The same could be said for blogging also – Facebook was the closest site to a ‘blog’ that I’d made, prior to WordPress. I’m actually enjoying adding to this blog; it becomes a bit addictive after a while!

  1. Windows Movie Maker! I must too agree that although this is a beneficial piece of software that has assisted me to produce wonderful movies, it drives me crazy with its inability to cope with the multimedia. On nearly all movies I have made, mainly 21st slideshows & recently an information movie on the Kiama Blowhole, the program has crashed on numerours occasions. I guess it just doesnt have the memory to cope! Upon reading your post, I am excited to here that the Mac’s iMovie is up for the challenge. I will certainly consider testing out this software next time the opportunity presents itself. From your experience, how long approximately does iMovie take to publish the movie? I know that with large movies Windows Movie maker struggles and has frozen on occasion!

  2. I know exactly what you mean Sherree! I have had no problems with iMovie, and I’ve made some large movie files as well, both for personal and classroom use… If you have a small file, say about 16mb, it takes a minute to finalise.. Obviously waiting time is longer the bigger the file, but I’ve not noticed the wait as I multitask while I wait! I’m just grateful it hasn’t crashed! You will love it, give it a go when you get the chance!

  3. Very clever to have created your own movie Kyra – since reading your post about how to create a movie and your and Sherree’s comments about movie maker this adds to my hesitation in wishing to use windows movie maker (not that I need much support in my hesitation as I am probably the biggest technologically phobic person there is).

I wanted to add to your comments regarding blogging – just like you my closest experience with blogging has up untill now been on Facebook but once you get the hang of the WordPress sites and how they are navigated the task seems less daunting (even for a technophobe like myself – if there is such a term). It would be interesting to see how much blogging does get used in the future, especially in education. I think its a fabulous tool but needs to be utilised in the correct way to ensure maximum benefit for the students.

    Great site Kyra – congratulations.

  4. Sorry I’ve made you feel that way Karen! You know what, with small files, I am sure Windows Movie Maker would be just fine – I’m sure you’d like it!

I agree with your comments about blogging too… who knows where it will be in one to two years time?!
